Is your Intercom history worth money?

Short answer: yes, if there are years of it and it connects to your other systems. Intercom conversations are support, sales and onboarding in one stream, which makes them unusually rich. Buyers want the conversation and the outcome: did the user convert, churn, or get the fix. See what your company's records could get.

What is actually in a Intercom export

Why buyers want it

Intercom records the whole relationship, not just the ticket. A trial user asks a question, a rep answers, the user upgrades or disappears. That link between a conversation and a business outcome is exactly what buyers describe when they say they want outcomes visible in the system.

One enterprise buyer
lists support and customer conversations in its core categories (published, October 2026).
Another enterprise buyer
names support transcripts (published, October 2026).
The fastest-paying marketplace
lists messages, docs, tickets and code as what it licenses (published, 2026).

How to export it

You do not have to do this before talking to a buyer. The buyer walks your admin through it once a deal is scoped. For reference, as of October 6, 2026:

  1. Intercom: Settings, then Data, then Export, produces a conversation export as CSV. The API returns full conversations with parts and notes.
  2. User and company data export separately; buyers mostly want the attributes, not the identities.
  3. Help center content exports as a site backup.
  4. Expect the buyer to pull via API; it is cleaner than the CSV.

Vendors move menus. Check the vendor's help center for the current path.

How scrubbing works, and what every buyer commits to.

What it pairs with

One system is a record. Two linked systems are a story. This is where the number moves most.

GitHub
The bug report and the fix.
HubSpot
The lead and the deal.
Slack
The escalation channel.

Which buyer types name it

Every buyer type, what it publishes, and who it wants.

Industries that run on it

In short

  • Intercom: high demand among buyers. 4 of the 6 buyer types name this kind of record.
  • Years of history and links to other systems drive the number. A snapshot is worth little.
  • Names, credentials and anything under a restrictive contract are removed or excluded before use.
  • You do not export anything before a deal is scoped. The buyer handles it with your admin.

Questions owners ask.

We use Intercom for sales too.

Even better. The conversation-to-outcome link is clearest in sales.

Is the chatbot data useful?

Less. Human conversations are the asset.

Can we exclude certain customers?

Yes, by company or tag.

How much of the value is Intercom alone?

For a software company, a lot. Paired with GitHub, more.
