Your chat history is only as safe as your plan

For most companies, the chat tool is where the real work gets talked through. Who handled the angry customer, why the job ran late, how the fix got decided. Years of it. But how much of that history you can actually see and export depends on your plan, your admin settings and the rules your chat tool sets, and those rules have changed in the last few years.

This checker uses each vendor's own help pages, linked under the result, so you can confirm it for yourself. Rules change, so the date we last checked is shown too.

Why it matters

If your history is set to delete after a year, or your plan only shows recent messages, the oldest part of your company's story may be going away a little more every day. Changing a setting or a plan today can stop that. Nothing you do here changes anything in your account.

Private channels and direct messages

These are handled differently from public channels on most plans, and usually need an admin and sometimes an approval to export. The result tells you what your plan allows.

Questions about this tool.

Does this connect to my Slack or Teams?

No. It only uses the plan you pick and the vendor's published rules. Nothing touches your account.

Are these rules current?

They come from each vendor's own help pages, linked under your result, with the date we last checked. Vendors change rules, so confirm on the linked page before you act.

Who can run the export?

Usually a workspace owner or admin. On some plans private channels and direct messages need an extra approval.

Can I get back history that is already gone?

Usually not. Deleted history is normally deleted for good, which is why it is worth checking your settings today.
