Is Mode (BizBuyData) legit? Data licensing for law, accounting and more

Short answer: Mode buys a de-identified copy of your company's records, publishing $100K to $5M, with the lowest minimums of any major buyer: 6 people for law firms and 10 for accounting, finance and medical. It charges no broker fee and says payment comes about three months after the first conversation (Mode). See which buyers fit your company.

The best fit is several years of records you own, with a team mostly in the U.S. In October Mode launched BizBuyData.com aimed at accounting firms (Accounting Today).

How it works

  1. Share your size, history and systems.
  2. Review the offer and approve the value, terms, systems and date ranges before any export.
  3. Your team signs in to the approved systems. Mode exports and de-identifies the copy, then pays.

Timeline

Mode says about three months from the first conversation to payment. Accounting Today reported a 14-day non-binding letter of intent (one 7-day extension), 15 to 30 days to de-identify after you accept the final offer, and payment expected within about 60 days.

Privacy

Your originals stay with you. Mode removes sensitive material and transforms personal identifiers before anything goes on. No passwords are handed over, AI developers only get the filtered copy, and Mode doesn't publish your records or sell reports about your company.

What to ask

Before you apply anywhere, check your fit with every buyer first. Once you apply to one buyer you are in its process. Our estimate takes about a minute, never asks for a file, and tells you which buyers your company fits. It costs nothing. See which buyers fit your company.
