How much does Pewter pay for company data? Three published examples: $350K, $450K, $650K

Short answer: Pewter is a broker, not the buyer, and publishes three examples: $350,000 for a 60-person accounting firm, $450,000 for a 70-person engineering firm, and $650,000 for a 100-person freight broker (Pewter). It wants 20 or more staff and three or more years, U.S. companies, open or closed, and the buyer pays Pewter's fee. See which buyers your company fits.

Checked Oct. 22, 2026, Pewter's page added more: a 3PL at $500,000 paid 7 days from bid, an industrial distributor at $1.2 million paid 9 days from bid, an accounting group at $280,000 paid 5 days from bid, a roofing company at $450,000, a general contractor at $300,000, a solar company at $275,000, a logistics company at $350,000 and a marketing agency at $110,000. Its own estimate for a 100-person company with ten years of records is $385,000 to $895,000, and it says the owner spends about an hour in total.

Those are the most useful numbers any intermediary publishes, because they are per company, with headcount, rather than a range. They line up with the reported median offer of $336,000 (aidata.broker) and with Handshake's calculator ($383,083 to $896,969 for 100 people and ten years).

What a broker changes

Pewter takes the company to buyers and the buyer pays Pewter. The company pays nothing, same as with Briggs Analytics. The question to ask any broker is which buyers it works with and whether it shows your company to all of them or one. How to pick a data broker.
